Jodhpur's Blue City is a photographer's paradise and a wedding planner's dream. Shreya and Aditya's celebration, held against the backdrop of Mehrangarh Fort, was everything the Blue City promises.
The Blue City does not disappoint. Every photographer who has shot a wedding in Jodhpur will tell you the same thing: you cannot take a bad photograph here. The blue-painted houses, the red sandstone of Mehrangarh Fort, and the desert light — especially in the hour before sunset — create a visual environment that requires no editing, no filter, no enhancement. Shreya and Aditya knew this and planned their wedding accordingly. For couples who want Rajasthan's drama but are looking for somewhere slightly less visited than Udaipur or Jaipur, Jodhpur offers a compelling alternative. The fort dominates every horizon; the old city wraps around its base in a dense labyrinth of colour. Shreya and Aditya hosted 150 guests over three days in a palace hotel at the base of the fort. The property has two large open courtyards — one used for the Mehendi and Haldi, one for the ceremony — and a rooftop terrace with an unobstructed view of Mehrangarh's south face. The Rooftop Sangeet The Sangeet, held on the rooftop terrace as the fort turned from gold to pink to purple in the fading light, is what guests remember most. Their decorator had strung lanterns between the terrace posts and arranged low seating on Persian rugs, transforming the rooftop into something that looked, as one guest put it, "exactly like a dream you'd have about India." A classical Kathak dancer opened the performances; the family's choreographed sequence closed them. The Ceremony The morning wedding ceremony in the inner courtyard was decorated entirely in white — white flowers, white drapes, ivory candles — a deliberate contrast to the riot of colour that surrounded it. Their photography team used the fort as a backdrop for the couple portraits, shooting from the hotel terrace in the late afternoon when the stone turns its deepest orange.
